The Nigerian Youth Parliament
The Nigerian Youth Parliament is a non partisan umbrella body for Nigerian youths created in compliance with the United Nations Charter on Youths Development and pursuant to the resolutions of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in the Republic of Malta in 2005 as a platform through which their voices could be heard on government policies that directly affect them.
Following resolutions from the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Malta, Nigeria took steps toward establishing a formal platform for youth engagement in government policy.
The Nigerian Youth Parliament was officially inaugurated in August by the administration of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke served as the pioneer Speaker from 2007 to 2010
The 6th Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament was inaugurated on February 5, 2025.
In 2025, the NYP participated in the planning committee for the National Youth Conference and held meetings with foreign diplomats to discuss youth empowerment and bilateral relations.

Youths are central to Nigeria’s future, and our voices must shape the policies that guide our nation. In the Southwest Caucus of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, we ensure that young people from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti are represented in governance. Our members debate motions, draft recommendations, and engage with communities to bring youth perspectives into national policy.
We focus on education, employment, innovation, and security, while promoting inclusivity and accountability. By transforming representation into action, we aim to empower youths and strengthen governance across the Southwest and Nigeria at large.
